Not really though, the fuel level sender is taking a crap finally, was going back and forth from full to empty all day yesterday.

I don't have the ability to change it out due to being at college and not having access to all the tools necessary, so I was wondering what a fair price is to get a shop to do this. I'll provide the parts myself, but does anyone know roughly what labor should run (I know hourly rates vary, but how many hours does the swap usually take?) I'll probably wind up using the blazer parts as per the video that's floated around here, and I'm debating whether to get a new fuel pump while everything is off.

Edit* Video says that the fix is for a 00-05 model, do the blazer senders work for the '99?

My mechanic says he can do the sender/pump assembly replace for $300. He says it is only about 2.5 hours of work if you know what your doing.

Does anyone know if the scangauge II will work accurately as far as displaying fuel economy and mileage if the level sender is whack?

Dave, I can assume you'd know about that if you read this haha ;)

I seem to remember it still working if the level sender is bad, and I'm ordering one regardless (had to buy books first), but that'd be sweet if it's a work around.

Scangauge II should be able to from all the capabilities it has. Pretty sure someone can chime in on that since I have not installed it yet, but as far as keeping track of your gas you could track your mileage at the pump. I have not had a fuel level sender since I had the car, went out as soon as I bought it :btruestory: and every since I just keep a notebook and worked it out on the receipt at fill up. Fuelly is a really good system to start off of if you don't track your fuel. Keep in mind you can write off fuel, just be consistent. Being in college every dollar counts so if you plan on getting a scangauge save your money to get one and for the mean time chart your petro mi amigo

Really? I'd be surprised if I spent more than an hour and a half doing this on mine for the first time... If I had to do it again, I'd probably have it down to half that.

Most mechanics won't know of the Tahoe part trick, and may replace the whole sender assembly.

I'd of course supply the part myself and tell them just to use that kit, but I'm not sure if it's the same for the 99's.

You also didn't have to drop the fuel tank like these guys do....

Didn't know that about the earlier models. Yeah, dropping the tank is a royal PIA.

Which is exactly why I don't really want to have to pay someone to do this haha. There's maybe 1 fair mechanic in Athens, and he's always backed up.

Hopefully the scangauge will be the best solution though, Feb. 3rd it's getting ordered when i get my financial aid checks

Also on a completely off topic note, my engine sounds so mean with a gutted air box. It's crazy what such a small mod can do, I can't wait to get a FWI!!
