I had my tint removed on Friday, and the genius that removed it from the rear window just took out the speaker grilles and ripped the rear deck out instead of taking out the back seat and properly removing it. I am trying to find a new rear deck from GM so it can be purchased courtesy of the shop. :) Ive found a few part numbers here and there but I have a few different ones, and no one has it in stock. I know its a bit of a long shot since it has been 12 years but some place some where might have one. I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere that would have a good chance of having it, I already tried CompNine and most of the sites listed in that thread. If I can't get the part I am at least looking for the price of the part when it was available from GM so I can be reimbursed if the price can be found.

If you live in or around Dearborn, MI..never take your car to the Dearborn Ziebart. The guy straight up told me that he can't lay tint without bubbles and offered a refund and tint removal for free when I got in touch with the vice president of Ziebart about the quality of their work. When I took my car there they just ripped out the rear deck, Im still waiting to see what the vice president will say but Im sure he will not be to happy with the shop because the rear deck is destroyed and I sent him pictures of their so called "work"

Look on car-part.com for a good-condition used one. That may be your best bet of getting a new part.

Dave, the shop is buying it, so he wants to stick it to them. Have you talked to your dealer? I'd bet there are some still out there somewhere.

Even so, the only option may be a good-condition used part.

See what the dealer says about getting a part for an 18 year old car. M-B has parts for cars that old, sometimes GM does too.

That's f'ed. I'd be sticking it to them also...

Um, I'm guessing this is the 98. I'd guess there's one in a back-room at a dealer somewhere.

It's not a part that'll really be ordered/replaced much.

Terrible work btw on just about everything.

Talked to the dealer and Vintage Parts Inc. and I haven't been able to locate one. Talked to an upholstery shop and he said bring it in so he can look at it. He said he might be able to fabricate a new board, or I can get a board from a junkyard and he will put new carpet on it.

Also the dealer said these decks run on average $180 dollars. The shop wasn't very happy when I told them that

And I got my tint redone at another shop yesterday. I paid $256 at the shop that destroyed my car (got a refund for the tint so far) and I paid $280 yesterday. Comparing the quality of the tint jobs, I would only pay $150 or maybe less for the Ziebart tint job, thats how poor the job was. These prices are tint on all side and rear window, and a eyebrow on the front window. Only mistake I may of made was thinking that my old 22% on the front wasn't very dark and I went with 5% all around this time. Its pretty dark to say the least.

Can anyone find me the proper instructions for removing this panel? I can't find it in the service manual...

Proper way to do this is remove the back seat...

Should be in the Trim/Body section..

There is no *dang* excuse for that! You have every right to expect Ziebart to pay in full to repair the damage they did. And the employee(s) who did that to your car should be handed their walking papers!

They damaged the part due to incorrect removal/installation, they should be the ones locating the parts, and paying for the entire thing. I run a H.D Truck repair shop, and thats how it works. If we break it, we source it, we buy, we install it.
Customer happy.

Manager of the location and Vice President of Ziebart are now denying responsibility. Their main points are that the piece may of been damaged by sun and deteriorating (anyone know what the board is made out of and if it can deteriorate?) and that it has been removed previously by me when I took it to have the tint installed (keep in mind I took the rear seat out and I care a lot about the condition of my car, it was perfect when I put it back in) and that it was removed to have the speakers installed (100% *shoot*, i installed the speakers and you dont have to remove this piece to do it) I do have exact quotes and the time when these conversation took place..i asked him how the piece was removed and he responded that the employee "lifted it straight up and pulled it out." I also went up there this afternoon and started reading him directions on how to remove the deck and while telling him how the seat must be removed he said "we dont remove seat cushions." When I went there a customer was in the waiting room so I had him come outside to talk, I kept my voice low the whole time but it resulted in him and the employee that worked on my car yelling at me outside the business so loud that the customer that was waiting came outside to see what was going on.

I am preparing small claims court papers and Im looking at claiming costs around the tune of $250 and court costs will be added on top of that if I win. Hopefully with the above quotes and some evidence on how the rear deck is removed, how speakers are installed, pictures of the damage, and a report from my father (whose name is on the title) stating that the piece was in good condition, the judge will rule in my favor. Papers will be submitted to the court either the 27th or 28th, I need to find the name of the owner of the location and finish a few things up

Good luck with the lawsuit, but if all else fails, you should be able to find one at a u-pull for under $20.

That Board will not degrade unless it gets soaked... I have never seen the sun degrade or destroy that board... Thats even on cars that are well over 20 years old.... The carpet on the board will turn to dust, but the board will be intact...

They are full of S*** .........

Best bet is to get a new Board from the wrecker and have it recovered... Get with the BBB as well or what ever other channels you can go through.... They suck...

I already looked into getting a new board from the junkyard and having it recovered. The junkyard quoted $45 for the board (I can't remember if thats them removing it or me) and I got a quote of $85 to have it recovered. Junkyard quote seems a little high but I did tell them the story and they might be trying to make some extra money off the deal too, which I don't really mind as long as I get enough to pay them that amount. Since I have the camel interior that was only produced 98-99, it is a bit harder to find one in my color which is why I would have to have it recovered

No updates yet really, about to make some calls to find the owner's name of the location so I can put his name on the court papers. Going to try and file the papers today but I don't know if Ill get around to it because I wanted to try and clean both Bonnes, and the court that I need to file it at is almost an hour away.
