Last night it was very cold here, when I left work about 1:00am I stayed for about 30 mind helping my coworker who's heater doesn't work scrape ice off his windshield. During this time I left the car running with the front and rear defrost on, perfectly normal right? I just came out to my car to find this

Had to have been a defect where the hole is. Windshields have been know to do this, but mostly when there is a crack or chip in them and you apply heat to the cold glass. But it also doesn't get that cold in Florida. Even in Minnesota you don't hear about this much.

collision and glass deductibles are usually different. most people have a deductibles on collision, but not glass.

found a local place that will come out and install with a lifetime warranty for 299.00 out the door sounds like that might be the best I will get.

I agree... There was a defect in the glass... Thats pretty uncommon and really uncommon in this climate...

I added a second really bad crack to an existing one on the 95's front windshield.

Cold weather + Defrost + Hit a bump wrong = :sadeyz:

:dontknow: nothing visible in the glass, I did just change my front struts but I have no earthly idea how that could possibly affect the backglass

That is very interesting. I've seen this happen twice on 00 Bonnevilles. Yours being the 3rd.
My buddies 00 SLE did that when he had his rear defrost on as well. It wasn't very cold (20 something) and the car had been running for 15 mins when he stopped for gas. As he put the gas nozzle in to fill it the whole window spidered and he noticed a hole like yours.

Also, if you can find someone to put one in for $100 I found a rear glass for $75 for you, but I don't know how close you are to Orange City or Callahan.

What sucks is if that was a windsheild insurance would usually cover 100% here in florida. I guess no such luck for the REAR glass..D'Oh! #-o

Dude that is a first for me.

My back glass did that on my 2000 - It was September in GA - passing a bunch of middle school kids, my back glass shattered suddenly. I went to the police station - and filed a report. Insurance did nothing - I got 2 quotes - $500 for new or used for $250. I now sport a 2001 Grand Prix (? I think - it was the exact same window) back window Cant tell the differece - that was the installed price but I had to drive to the salvage yard!!

Auto glass is such a racket! Somebody broke out the little quarter window on the right rear door of my Caddy a couple of years ago to steal a bag with some school papers in it (guess they thought they were snagging a laptop) and the best price I could find to have it replaced was just a shade under $400.

In getting the estimate, the glass shop put me on a three-way call with my insurance company, during which I found out my deductible was $500 and thus would not cover the repair. If that weren't bad enough, the glass shop readily agreed to give the insurance a 20 percent discount, which would have brought the cost down to around $320, but they would not offer me the same courtesy for paying cash.

Now here's the icing on the cake: While writing this, I checked the Web site of my favorite junkyard, which offers standard pricing on parts, regardless of make, model, or condition, and I could get a whole freakin' door from there (removing it from the donor car myself) for about $40!!!

The tech came out today and takes one look at the car and says "they didn't send me that moulding" so he removes the old glass and tries to save the old moulding, which doesn't work he tells me he has universal moulding I take one look and say hell no. Now he left and they want me to pay 70 bucks for them to order the moulding and then wait who knows how long to install it.

Im about to go get the jy one for 100 and order the *dang* mouldng myself and put it in

And this past weekend the '93 windshield did the same thing. 8" of snow, started the car to warm it up and dig it out. Turned the defrost on and the litle chip near the center of the windshield spawned a crack running almost the entire length of the windshield. :???:

Finally the situation is resolved I got another guy to come out with a used glass and it was installed and dome with for the meager price of 265.00
