Those NAPA Ultra Premium rotors are too inexpensive to ignore their value with their coated hats and vanes, along with their warranty and low runout tolerance. It's all I order for my customer's vehicles. Not one comeback yet, compared to the constant comebacks with the other salespeople always calling out for the cheapy rotors and pads from Advance and CarQuest.

Only safety stops for the SLE? I'd think you'd want the UP Ceramic pads too. Oh well. Excellent couple piles there. Looks like fun!

Odd thing about those premium rotors. Both part numbers matched, but one is coated and the other isn't. They are identical in every other way. Doesn't matter, rust isn't a problem out here.

As far as the SLEeper's pads are concerned, ceramic wasn't in the budget, and I'm not replacing the rotors. Not turning them, either, so I don't want the added heat load of ceramics. The rotors on the car are pristine. Not a single groove, and very little wear. It's just that it had thin pads. Not the normally-normal course of action on front brakes, but in my case, it'll work out great.

SLEeper's right rear is done. Nothing like a torch and a big prybar to break the drums off the hub. I pre-soaked them a month ago with PB Blaster. On to the left rear......

(and the pliers of doom didn't even hurt me)

Rear is done on the SLEeper. MUCH nicer and quieter stopping now. Flipped around for the front hubs and new brake pads. That's a QUICK job with air tools. I might actually get to the ZiLLA after all today. Not even noon yet.

NEWS FLASH: Even tires as wide as 235 can rub depending on brand. I bet the ZiLLA is worse than this with the 245's, and we'll find out a little later. Got the RF torn apart, time to start putting it back together:

Bill, too bad you don't have an Oxy-acetylene torch. That brake drum would've been off in no time flat here on the lift with the torch.

I do have oxy/acet. Didn't feel like dragging it out. MAPP gas is lighter. Just needed PB Blaster and a single heat cycle to pop 'em. RF rotor and axle/hub needed the same treatment. RF is done. LF came apart easy and is going back together now.

ZiLLA Motorsports custom brake bleeder coming out soon.......

Looking good Bill. You will have both cars up and running just in time for the good weather.

I am surprised no one noticed the chain in the first post.

Did you get to Zilla yet?

Good work!

Since Matt mentioned it, what's the chain for? I noticed it, just didn't think it was important, lol.

Just finished the 'bedding' of the new pads up front and new drums/shoes in the rear. The rotors had to be ground for the lip on the outer edge since I re-used them and they didn't need turning, but I re-balanced them before they went back on the car (yes, I have a balancer).

Last high-speed stop had no shaking, and the subsequent 'normal hard' stops' were beautiful. (Last stop was from 110).

I not only bled, but completely flushed the SLEeper. ZiLLA has already had this done, but the SLE hadn't. Call the SLEeper done for now, and good for Katie to drive again.

ZiLLA is tomorrow, nosed into the garage due to the incoming weather front, my back permitting. We'll see what I feel like in the morning.

Chain? What chain? Where'd that come from?

Two people in this topic are the only other ones that know the intended purpose of the chain.

A third person helped with the first two prototypes not involving a chain. ;)

Strong leash to harness all of Zilla's power?

ETA, I remember seeing folks put these on SBC if they kept breaking motor mounts..

But since its a WAG, I am probably way outfield with this....

Pssst, I know what the chain is for, no telling though. Family secret

Lol, main reason dad changed the brakes were cuz they annoyed me so bad. I gotta tell you though, the hyper-sensitive steering gets on my nerves more than anything else. glance down every now and then to check my speed and I'm suddenly on the line. Thanks to the fact that the SLEeper has no head up display.

And the fact that the SLEeper doesn't have the same steering rack as the ZiLLA.

I'll tell you that the chain is very closely related to something else in that picture. And there's a pretty good guess in this topic already. I'm on my 4th front trans mount in less than 2 years. Even my custom adjustable bullet-proof mount puked at the dragstrip. Adding another layer of 'support' to it this time. And nearly doubling the strength of the threaded rod, and trying for two bushings this time.

Gotta get my stick welder down in there though. That might be the trick. And my back is so sore, Lisa and Katie may have to pull the dryer out so I can plug the welder in.
