yesterday, i looked at and drove a 93 buick park avenue. It has 177k, with all the options. Leather, windows, locks, dual zone ECC, dual power front seats, which all work. It was very dirty, but that's easy to remedy.
Its back tires are pretty worn, but the front ones are decent, maybe a little more than 50% worn. It also has warped rotors.
The dynaride suspension still works, and it runs and drives smoothly.

The guy said the car is from Kansas, so there's no underbody rust. He said he bought it at a police auction, it was an abandoned vehicle, and he put in a new alternator (i believe him, the voltage was reading at about 14 when i drove it)

he was asking $1200, and i offered him $1000 which he accepted. Does that sound fair?
btw, i looked it up on kbb, and it said it's about $1300 in "fair condition", and $1650 in "good". I think with a little work, i could put it in "good" condition.

$1000 seems like a lot considering the age and mileage. Since I'm a cheap SOB, I woulnd't have paid more than $500.

as long as the engine and body are solid, 1000 bucks seems like a deal.

well the body is solid, but it's not the best looking. the driver's side has several dings and dents, but the paint is still intact, so no rust.

i'm really impressed by the lack of rust. That's how i know the guy was honest about it being from out-of-state.

normally i'd be turned off by high miles, but i know that this motor will run forever. The trans gripped and shifted smoothly, so i think i'm going to get it. As it stands now, i don't plan on keeping it for a while, i just want something that will drive me until i can afford something nice.

bought it today and drove it home. I found out when looking at the lights that there are about 6 bulbs out. So I'm going to replace those and give the car a full cleaning tomorrow. And hopefully i'll have time to get it to the DMV with the title.

I suppose if the only thing you're worried about is bulbs, that's a pretty solid car you've bought
