would you have bought a 50th?

Chat about all things Bonneville (and related cars). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.

Post by Gumball »

If pontiac stuck around and made a 50th in 2007. would you buy one.

New or even now, that it would be 3 years old?

I would my self would now. its about the age I buy used cars.

Another car wouldn't be doable for me but I'd at least be drooling over one probably!

It's really hard to tell, honestly.

I love the Bonneville name, and I have loved both of mine, but by 2007 the line would have been due for a refresh.

Would the car have looked like a big G6?

Would it have been made in America, or someplace else like the G8?

Would I have been in love with that car? If not, why buy it?

So, its obviously a lot of questions that we'll never have answers to, but if the car was striking and the options awesome, I would have gotten my hands on one eventually.

If it was just a re-hash of the '00-'05 line, probably not. Back when my wife was shopping for cars in '05, I strongly suggested a Bonneville. She decided she needed/wanted another SUV, so we bought a Grand Cherokee Limited instead. Nice car, horrible gas mileage from the Hemi. So we bought the TL a few years later and it's been great for her, but not my kind of car. Then I bought the SLE for me. Best car I've ever owned as a daily driver. But it had become dated by then. If a 50th had been a new model, it might have been the choice rather than the Acura.

Maybe. Selling point would have to be distinctive styling like how the 92-99 generation went for their time. Seeing as how not only GM* but other car companies were watering down their styling to the point of "blech!", it may not have been interesting enough to warrant a purchase.

They purposely DIDN'T name it "Bonneville" or "Grand Prix" (since it effectively replaced both cars, not just the Bonne), because of the "stigma" associated with the name "Bonneville" which in part was one of the multiple reasons the last generation of Bonneville's died away a slow death.

Bonneville's have had a rich history indeed, but most automotive consumer's nowadays don't remember them for that history, rather as land barges from the 70's, or as tack on body cladded GM clones of the 90's!

My next car will be a G8 GT, it might be a couple of years though, unless another sweetheart of a deal plops into my laptop. If the Bonneville had another year and some new tweeks, yeah, I would've gotten one.

Yeahhh! Pontiac was on it's way to having a completely RWD fleet by this year...but as we all know they got killed off and threw that plan out the window...

It just might.

I was just speaking with my brother a few minutes ago. He just today picked up his brand new Equinox and is very happy with it.....so far. It's only the 2.4L version but he's going for mileage. I'd have picked the V6 and waited until it gets a turbo.
