This is a procedure for installing the 52mm AEM air fuel ratio gauge into the driver’s side right lower dash vent. It is the same procedure to install any 52mm gauge into any of the vents. This is the same procedure I used to install my Aeroforce scangauge in the left side lower vent. Gauge being installed: I purchased a second set of vents for 2 reasons. If I ever remove the gauge, I have the original to put back in and second, in case I mess up. Start by removing the face of the vent. There are clips all the way around it. Remove the link that connects the damper control. Remove the grill from whichever vent you are installing the gauge in: Remove the directional cone by squeezing tabs and pulling it out. This gauge came with a second bezel. I used it to get an idea of where to cut and to see how it fit into the trim. Snap the trim back on and hold the gauge up and get an idea of how deep it will set into the vent. Remove the trim once this is done to prevent it from getting damaged. Here is the bit I used in my Dremmel tool. Use whatever you prefer to cut and do the final clean up. You want to do a rough cut to get the opening and depth close to what will be needed by test fitting the gauge. You then want to clean everything up so it fits and looks nice. I have a tight fit here and have 2 options. I can either cut the metal bracket to make room for the nuts to go on the studs or I can cut more of the plastic. I notched the plastic and took a little extra to be able to align the gauge once installed. Final install with wiring attached. I ended up removing the damper because it was hitting the back of the gauge. With the linkage removed, it was not functional any ways. It just snaps in 3 places, each end and in the middle. |
