Hi all, ,

I have had to get my intake gasket replaced and now it is leaking again. I'm thinking at this point I should just throw a supercharger on it. If I'm spending money it might as well be fun but is this at all possible and how much money am I looking at?

thanks,

Welcome.

To add a blower, you will need to swap the heads, lower intake, and blower. It is kind of an involved swap. It needs a special tune as well to account for the higher compression of the L36 versus the factory supercharged L67. Headers would also help the car run at full efficiency more safely.

Also keep in mind too that the bottom end on the L36 isn't as stout as the L67 bottom end. Many run it with no issues, but don't expect the life expectancy of a L67 when you do it.

I'm surprised the transmission hasn't been mentioned yet? With more power from the blower your transmission will not last as well as an SSEi that has the HD trans but IIRC. You can swap the diff to strengthen it up?

The L36 has been run to the same boost levels as L67s. For all intents and purposes, their durability is the same. That myth needs to die. It was brought about by people running L36s on L67 tunes. It's all in the tune. In fact, the L36 is preferred by many when boosted because it is better to drive out of boost thanks to its higher compression, produces more power when in boost, and feels spunkier overall because it builds boost quicker as well. So...

Furthermore, the HD trans and the non-HD trans are completely the same. The ONLY difference is the diff, which is SLIGHTLY stouter, but the diff is not the weak point. It is the input shaft, which is the SAME in both transmissions. Not something you need to worry about unless you do lots of launches, and are producing more than 300 wheel horsepower. A basic top swap will be in the neighborhood of 215-220whp. If your transmission is already abused and beat, then obviously adding power will not help it.

Another option is an SSM90 kit, which can be found used for considerably cheaper than what ZZP offers it for. And will allow you to bolt up a blower without swapping the heads. There's one for sale on GPF right now for $350.

Or you can go turbo if you want to drop around $1500 up front. It is the best hp/$ option.
