Hi all,

The bearings in my '95 Riviera's supercharger are going bad and I would like to replace the snout or rebuilt it eventually. However, I'm not sure I completely trust myself in doing the entire job. Anyone in the Pittsburgh, PA area willing to help me out sometime? Not anytime soon - I need to get the money for a rebuild kit or snout and the correct gaskets and things first.

I know it's a relatively easy job, but I'm just not sure I have the experience necessary to remove the entire supercharger and all such attachments and trust myself to get it back together...

What are your indications it is the bearings? Have you checked the coupler yet?

Well, while I don't ENTIRELY trust the dealer that told me it's the bearings (it's there for a few other problems too), they are good for almost everything else. They did tell me the pulley had no play, but I'm going to double check that when i get the car back. The car has 110,000 miles and I've heard of the bearings going bad at 50,000, though it's not common for it to happen at all. So until I get it back and check for myself, the problem could be either thing. It's also making a good amount of racket and I wouldn't expect a worn coupler would be QUITE that noisy, but I'm still new to superchargers.

Thanks willwren - I plan to get the car back this week so I'll be diagnosing as soon as I can. Site looks good so far!

Though regardless of what the problem is, bearings or coupler, I may just rebuild the snout while it's out anyway with new bearings and seals and whatnot. If I have to take the entire supercharger off to take the snout off anyway, I might as well go the extra mile.

Thought I'd update here since I just got the car back yesterday. Turns out the bearings are fine but my coupler has about 3/16" - 1/4" of play in it. It's baaaaaaaaaaad. I found a write up on how to remove the supercharger and change the coupler so I SHOULD be ok. But I'll post here if I have any questions. Thanks everyone!
