alright at 190k the new bonne is due for a good tune up. oil,air filter etc etc. I'm also looking to change the supercharger oil. (last time it probably was changed I was playing with pogs while watching power rangers) anyway I did some searching and I'm trying to figure out if these superchargers really need supercharger oil or will some regular motor oil work?

yes i read the write up

IMO why take the risk? Just spend the $8 for the supercharger oil.

Edit: By the way POGS = da bomb......in like 1992

I would definitely use the recommended oil. The viscosity of the SC oil is different than standard motor oil.

Here is a link to the overall process if you need it...

Plus it's made with special materials for use in that application. IIRC, S1's only need 1-4oz bottle from the dealer.

Just out of curiosity, does Eaton have a recommended substitute (i.e. the same basic additives as what GM sells for SC oil?)

Just thinking of what might happen a few years down the road when the "new" GM doesn't have it available at the parts counter.

I would expect the oil to be available from the various venders here.

I sent an email to Magnuson asking for alternatives to the dealer; here is the response:

Not worth it IMHO. You should be able to get the correct oil from anyone who deals with Eaton blowers.

I know of two instances where people cooked their blowers using motor oil. It made a nasty mess. One is a member here.

Use the proper oil.

I just removed the old, dirty oil...flushed it....and now have brand new oil in!

Sounds a little better and boost also is more responsive, but that may be because I removed a birds nest in my intake also :)

PS, oil is a little over $10 here in SC...I get it for 7$ with tax (if your local, Charleston SC) lmk ill get you some too...
