Blower motor works as normal, but only blows cold air. When I start the car, it will blow hot for about 2 seconds, then the display in the ECC will blink and it will turn cold. Apparently the display in the ECC blinking is telling me to bring it in for service. Since it will blow hot, but it decides not to, it's leading me to believe it's an electrical problem. Any ideas on where I should start?

OK, trying to research on my own... I'm reading about temperature sensors and air mix actuators. Does anyone have any experience with these? Where are these located and what would be the most common problem?

one possibility is a faulty airmix actuator. a small electric motor controls the position of the of the door that determines whether air that has just passed thru the AC evap (cold air) is routed thru the heater core for warming.

to determine if this door is operating, remove the glove box and with a pen light locate the blend door and airmix actuator. the two will be connected via a plastic rod usually of a light beige or dirty white color. as you cycle the temp from 60 to 90 degrees, you should see rod and door move. if there is erratic motion of the door or no movement, it is likely the airmix actuator. if you suspect the actuator, using a long thin screwdriver flat blade, disconnect the rod from the door and an move the door manually. you should feel temp change from cold to hot.

there is a lot of info in this forum regarding this problem. search on airmix actuator.

Update, apparently I'm an idiot. Took the glove box out, and only saw more plastic, and I wasn't about to tear all of it out with no idea what I was doing. Brought it to the shop, they scanned it and verified it is the blend door motor. Goes back in the shop Wed. to get fixed.

I have nearly the same symptoms. After I turn the heater on, it also blows warm air for I would say 10 seconds, then it cools off. The temp display blinks on and off about 1x/second and does that for about a minute and then shows the outside air temp. I was thinking maybe it was the inside air temp sensor, but not so sure now. Anyone have an other ideas on this problem and/or some sort of a service manual for the ECC?

Just found this info (below). I'll check this out as well. thanks

Well mine turned out to be the airmix actuator. It should be replaced tomorrow and I'll post for sure whether that fixes it or not.

So far heat works after putting in the air mix actuator.
