I wanted to see if running Hella 80/100 (low/high) bulbs would be safe for the stock wiring on my 89?

I just wanted to make sure it would be ok or would If a relay harness is needed.

thanks

Is the stock low beam bulb wattage 55 watts? would an 80 watt bulb be safe for the wiring?

edit..

Is this in the wrong section? hmmmm #-o

I'd be fairly worried about what the extra wattage would do to your wiring, fuses, and headlight housings. That is pretty high compared to stock.

thanks for the incite, I was hoping for someone that's ran higher wattage bulbs with success..
I've ran the same wattage on my toyota's stock wiring and it never even got warm..

The other thing to be concerned about is the age of the wiring and connections. You may have hot spots and not know it until it either starts a fire or trips a breaker or fuse. There are not many of these cars on the road and not many people are into modding them or doing much more than keeping them on the road.

I know on my 89, the lights seem to be bright enough. They still used the glass lenses and we don't have to worry about the haze causing our lights to appear dim.

You can get better bulbs, and even HIR that I hear good things about. But that high of wattage you asked about is pretty high. You'd be a guinnie (sp?) pig if you tried it.

Chris D. Id like to know where to get those high wattage bulbs. I wouldn't mind running a few wires for the safety aspect. GM goes beyond the minimum std IME. I wouldn't take the chance though. Take your time and run them nicely

Note if you pull the injectors to obserbe fuel delivery...make sure you leave the plugs in and disconnect the ign. Believe me

You can buy the relay harnesses for HID's that turns the stock wiring into just a switch, and supplies power through a relay and heavier wiring directly from the battery. That would help the wiring part, not sure about the housing part. Check e-bay for the wiring.
