This car is old, has 308,000 miles on it. The drivers door lock has stopped working, by key and/or remote.... I pulled the cover off and it appears the plastic mechanism that houses the remote has broken somehow and is loose....it further appears this looseness is causes kind of a blocking of the rods. I'm assuming just replacing the mechanism.... BUT when I replace it, witll it automatically work with my remote??

hi, I would first try some high quality contact cement and see if it can be repaired and mechanism moves freely

that loose module may get a signal from the door latch commanding the radio off. try to repair the loose thing and then move to radio-
that would be the logical progression if it were my issue...........good luck

Do the dome lights turn on and off with the door being opened/closed? I'm not sure on the schematic for these, all my '86-'91 cars turn off with the key being taken out of the ignition, so not sure if the door sensor (located on the pillar) is a factor with the radio not turning off.

Lights don't even come in when driver door is opened......they do when the other doors are opened.

That would mean that switch on the pillar is bad. I've never changed one, but I think you need access to the back side of it to pull it out.

I think ther is a way to disable the sensor in the door.. when I changed out the door on my 91 Cadillac deville my buddy disabled that. Then lights would not work with drivers door and closing the door meant radio stays on and turns off in 10 minutes unless you pull open another door.
