Hey guys and girls, I need some help. Im having a rather hard time getting the harmonic balancer bolt off. I have to replace the timing chain damper,( well Im replacing all of it while im in there, but thats what I was told was wrong with it.) I cant get the balancer bolt off how do I do this without a puller or air tools? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know what size the harmonic balancer bolt head is for a lg3?

It should be either 15/16 or 1 1/8.
These are some general instructions for later models that may have some helpful tips http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/engine/topic8267.html

I don't think the LG3 requires a puller, but I think it will take an obscene amount of torque to break it loose.

LN3+ has an inspection cover near the starter that can be removed (hopefully LG3 does too), and you can then jam a prybar in the teeth of the flex plate and hold the engine back from turning.

I would advise against using the teeth on the flywheel, I've broken chunks off the trans bellhousing doing that.

The way that I've been doing it now is to put the prybar into one of the holes through the flywheel face, and let it bind against the block between the starter and the oil pan. The trans inspection cover does have to be removed for this still.
