Has anyone changed out ball joints by drilling out the rivets on the old ones? Just curious to hear of anyone's experience with it. How much of a pain was it or did they just drill out easy? I need to change mine for sure... The book just says drill out rivets and remove old ball joints...why couldn't they just be pressed in??!! :dontknow:  thanks for any input!

hi, yes you want to drill or grind the head of the rivet-- no big deal once separated from knuckle
take a look and maybe you have the oem replaced already- then there are 3 nuts

I use my dremel with grinding bit and its about 5 min a rivet-- pretty easy!!

Awesome! So you're saying i don't have to necessarily remove the control arm either? I was figuring that would be needed just for the extra room...i do have a dremel! Yes definitely the originals still on there. Good point though..

When I did mine, I couldn't get my drill to bite in, so I ground the rivets off.

the dremel will make it so much easier cause its compact and will fit in tight places
grind the heads of rivets and give it a whack with hammer and you is done for removal!!
if you drill, you will need more room and have to remove arm to get proper angle- grind is so much easier!!!

It's done...whew. It was some work too. But actually a simple and straightforward job. I do think i would advise someone to go ahead and remove the knuckle and cv axle just so it's not in the way. My control arm has these protruding things coming out of the side that appear to be for a different sway bar link or something but they are not used. They get in the way of the cv rubber boot and want to cut into it if not handled with care. I had to be extra careful not to let the cv rubber rest on it.
