Year and Trim: 1988 sse - 80,000 on the clock and my first car...

1995 se wit da sle package- 120,000 on the clock and ticking stronger then ever...
ok the key broke in my trunk lock on my 1987 delta 88 royale.

tried n tried to get the get the key with no luck.

so i rember that when i disconnected the trunk release button wires from the button itself i put the button safely in my garage last year.

well i found the button and reconnected it and still the truck wont open.

so now i check the fuse. ( fuse is missing ). so i put a fuse in for the trunk release and still dont work.

so i pull the fuse and the fuse is good and not popped. so i then look at the fuse box and where the fuse for the trunk release goes it only has 1 terminal.

so basically the fuse is not making contact with what it needs to..

i dont understand what the hell happened to the other connector that the fuse is supposed to make contact with and i really need to get into my trunk.. my daughters violin for school is in there as well as some other things i need.

can anybody tell me what wires i can play with or hot wire to open the trunk.

i really dont feel like ripping out the lock with a flat head... thanks.

Most GMs have an orange and a white or black for trunk release. I believe the white or black is the one that you have to give 12v to for the actuator to open. The actuator is grounded in the trunk so one of the wires at the button have 12v and the other is supposed to get it when you push the button.
Hope that helps.

Did you have the ignition turned on when you tried to open the trunk? The circuit is only live with the ignition turned on..

Maybe back then but I am pretty sure I can pop the trunk in my 02 (and my STE from 89 IIRC) with out the key on.

tried with the key on and off. didnt make a difference.. and honestly it did work all the time with the car off.. thats how they stole my stereo a few years back and the reason i ripped out the trunk release button.

thanks, i will take one of my cordless drill batteries and see if i can power the one wire and open the trunk..

once the truck is open i can fix or buy a new lock without causing any damage to the trunk..

Wont work with the 12v from your drill battery, the ground is from the car. Its different. If you could hook the - fm battery to the ground for the actuator it would work ok. You need a wire (with a fuse) that has 12v on it from the cars 12V source. IE: Long wire from battery with a fuse in it or something through a test light. Theres lots of ways to do it.

We are talking about the 87 Olds 88 right?

If so its an ignition switched on circuit, Ignition on is the only way it should work...

You should have 2 wires pink/black, this goes to the switch and black from the switch to the trunk release solenoid...

By all right if these 2 wires are are touched together with the ignition on the trunk release solenoid should work, if not you may have other issues..

Like stated above, you could use the fused 12v source like Don mentioned, to the black wire...
