1987 Bonneville LE
i just picked up and 87 LE this week with only 74k original miles, it was running rough at first so i changed what i could afford after all the fee's and insurance.
I replaced the air filter (old one was black lol) changed all the plugs and put it autolite 605's gapped to .045 which is what is says under the hood, put on napa belden 8mm wires (the blue ones), and changed the fuel filter. It made a dramatic difference, i can feel that the pick up is alot faster than it was. it is running a hell of alot better, but it still has a slight misfire and its burning more gas than my 2000 SSEi i am going to replace the coil pack next when i get paid. any advice on where i can search next and a recommended brand of coil pack for that year?

Go to a junkyard and get the ignition control module (what the coils bolt to) and coils from a Series I or II v6 car, I don't believe it matters which car it is from. This is a direct bolt in and has hotter spark and more accurate ignition, IIRC. If it is indeed your coil, it will fix that issue, as well as slightly improving throttle response and power from stock.

You'll also need the mounting plate. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=1684

I have everything you need, send me a PM if you're interested.

Are you sure you got an ignition module from a 3800? The coils are all the same connection wise, but the modules are different. Look at the pins. The 3800 uses all of them and the 3100 does not use the space on the far left of the connector (it will have a hole in the rubber insulator and no pin if it is from a 3100).

I know this because I have one from a 3100 sitting here in my garage that I got when I did my swap.

Talking in chat, Don thinks he needs a 3300 ICM.

IIRC this was an easy swap on my 88 SSE. Is there a difference in that one year?
