The three gauges for Coolant temp, Oil Pressure and Boost have been wonky for the last year.
Sometimes they all work. Sometimes they don't.

With the cold weather now, they are working perfect. They weren't last week. :???:
For instance, the boost gauge would always read high but now it's dead on. Same with the coolant temp and oil pressure.
I checked the bus connections in the footwell and they look perfect. No wetness or leaks.

Maybe the cold has shrunk some connections into better contact.... :???:

I changed the floor shifter light but still no indication of what gear it's in.

Just now noticed that a rear door window does not work. :angry7:

Did I say how well it's running now?!
Like a champ.

The floor shifter indicator light rests in a plastic housing which stretches throughout the shifter range. Is that broken?

94s are champs. Mine will start right now.

check the wires that connect to the shifter light, Mine didnt work for years, follow the write from Harofreek and it will most like work again. (my issue was that the wires stretched overtime and tore, replaced and resoldered, good as new)

When my gauges went nuts, they seemed to change behavior when it rained. That lead me to check into the wiring, which I dug into at depth and came up with nothing. Eventually, another gauge pod fixed it.

Good one, thanks John.

I changed the light that goes into a socket that plugs into the shifter housing.
Maybe it is the wiring. If it is, forget it, I'm not that fussy with this car.

edit....that really pisses me off to think this could be a design flaw in such a high end vehicle......more fuel for the demise of the NA auto industry.... :angry7:

John is being serious about the gauge pod. What he means is, take the cluster apart, and replace the 3 gauge section with that from another cluster. These cars are ~15 years old, you can't expect them to last forever.

Yup. I took the thing apart first, cleaned everything, and it didn't help.

I had the same problem in my 93. It drove me nuts. One min it would work the next min it was wonky, then it would go out for a few weeks srtaight until i jacked it up then it was wonky again! I bought a rebuilt from the dealer for $275! Yeah but it hasn't skipped a beat yet.

It might have something to do with the grounding continuity. :???:

Well, thanks for the replies. Sounds like nothing that $300 won't fix. 8-[

All the gauges still work fine on both my 20 year old Jeep and 30 year old Firebird! [-(

The 1992 Aerostar's gauges stop moving when it gets too cold outside.

Same here, replaced the light and then found that the wire was broken. Hardest part was tracking down the correct bulb. Checked several auto supply stores in 4 towns before finding one. Dealer didn't even have one.

Hey! I'm a Canuk. The correct saying is "They sure don't make em like they used to, Eh!"

Yup! Failing gaskets, broken wires, wonky gauges, bad steering Ujoint, faulty fuel senders, sensors, pistons, transmissions,..........and so on. :angry7:
