Shaking above 60 mph

Post by Andrew88 »

If I go about 60 mph or higher, the entire car shakes pretty badly. Does it just a little bit at lower speeds, but barely. Took it to the tire shop and they replaced one tire because the old one I guess was bent. Then they balanced my tires...TWICE. Car still shakes. Thoughts?

Maybe you have a bad misfire? Tune up lately?

Sway bar end links broken off or missing?

Warped rotors

Those are some ideas just throwing it out there :beerchug:

i've got the same problem

changed inner and outer ties,, changed rotors,, hub bearings
tires balanced, twice also.

been under the car several times looking for anything obvious,
tightening loose bolts left and right.

the only thing i have left, that i can think of to do is,

change strut bushings and or transaxle mounts.

if there is something else maybe someone can point it out.

hope this helps,, good luck

Check the inside of your rims for mud or other stuff. My car used to shake around 70mph till I scraped some mud off the inside of my rim. Smooth as silk at all speeds now

Struts...there expensive but if you've changed everything else, oh well.

Balance tires- cheap fix and needs to be done anyway
warped rotors- will be pronounced when you apply brake
bad tires or rims- bent rim or tire worn...
tie rods- are they loose?
hub bearings- take weight off wheel, pull and push tire...any free play?

Balancing and strut work is good in the long run, but if you do anything with your struts where you disconnect them, you need to do an alignment. I had very similar shaking around 60mph for a few years. I got my car aligned at Griffin Brothers, since they do the laser alignment, and speed balanced and it drives like a new car. I can go 80+ with no shaking problems. I tried to fix the problem by getting new tires, playing with toe in (don't do that), balancing, adjusting tire pressures, but the alignment was the solution. Good luck!

Well guess what I found! I just happened to look at my car from the side and I see that A-bar thingie hanging a little too low. Sure enough, it needs new strut bushings!! The thing isn't exactly connected anymore. Bushing just fell off I guess. If this turns out to be the culprit of my shaking and it get it to not shake anymore by fixing this, I will praise God!
