Took off alternator and belt tensioner to replace an aluminum heater hose fitting that was leaking . Replaced the pulley on belt tensioner.reinstalled the alternator and tensioner. Before putting the belt back on I went to spin the fan on the alternator and noticed it is touching the tensioner. It wasnt before.i took them off. Will this be alright since when I install the belt it will separate them or is this a problem.

Sounds like something didn't quite go back together right. Can you post some pics? Maybe that will help us find it.

So I've actually had this happen after reassembling a Bonneville alternator. The shaft caged bearing that presses into pulley side alternator casing backed out. The only other bearing is a needle bearing on the other side and it won't stop movement axially. I tried pressing the bearing back in and it backed out again. I never tried a new bearing but unless the outer race of a fresh bearing is larger, the same thing will happen again.

Unless you want to mess with having it all apart, finding a new bearing, hoping it stays put, you're better off replacing the alternator.
