Post subject:  SSEi convert from air suspension?

I have a 96 SSEi and 96 SE. Both cars are showing manfunctions in the air suspension systems, most likely from the struts being worn out and leaking. Both compressors work fine but are unplugged right now.

Is there an OE or aftermarket option for converting these cars to standard gas struts, from say a base model or another related car? My local parts store couldn't come up with any findings other than air strut replacements. I had an '02 LeSabre before I bought my Bonnevilles and there was a rear strut/coilover conversion I was able to get from Monroe to replace the auto level system in the rear.

Thanks!

You'd need non-air struts and springs. It's probably cheaper and easier to get new air struts.

I would just have to change the rear springs to stiffer ones while I could then replace the rear shocks with standard gas ones and standard gas macpherson struts up front?

I don't mind going back to OE air struts, but if I could get rid of it sounded like it would be a cheaper and less complicated way to go. I suppose the most common failiure of the air suspension system is the struts leaking? My compressor would run forever and nothing would happen and both lights on the console were lit up. Obviously this indicates a leak somewhere in the system. I can see all 4 of the air struts are leaking oil and the boots look very cracked and worn looking.

If your compressor is working, I'd get air struts. I've got Monroe's that have lasted nearly 100,000 miles and hold air just fine.

Probably the route I'll go. I mean, it's only money and if I keep going to work there's only more of that where it came from, right? Lol
