Today, I did a rare WOT 1-2 shift. I can probably count on my hands how many times I've done that with this transmission (installed around last Oct. I want to say?). It got to 6k (Intense PCM), and stayed there for probably about a second and a half before it shifted into second and it was very sloppy and mushy feeling. Typically WOT 1-2 shifts torque the wheel to the right a bit. Is this a sign of the solenoids starting to gum up from whatever is creating the clutch mud in the trans fluid? Think I'll be taking it in for another warranty service job? It's got an adjustable trans modulator so there isn't a whole lot of stress being put on the 1-2 clutch. 2-3 and 3-4 WOT are always soft though. Can I put seafoam transtune in there and not worry about changing the fluid or is that a bad idea?

First does it have enough fluid? Was the trans hot from a long drive?

And aren't you the one thats had like 3 different transmissions in that car?

Were these transmissions rebuilt?

Yep, fluid level is fine. Did it after driving for about ten minutes, just enough to bring engine to normal operating temp. And yes, 3 different transmissions, first defective, second shuddered horribly, third wrong gear ratio, and now this one and shudder is still unsolved. Transmissions were pulled from wreckers under my warranty. I MAY get rid of the car as soon as the warranty is up (20k mi).

I've tried to simulate it several times and have gotten nowhere. Car was feeling unusually very perky tonight so I took some videos hoping it would act up, but it didn't.

Check it out. Ignore the poor quality, didn't realize phone was set to low quality, but you can hear it typically shifts hard and firm.

First run:

I've never spun these tires like that... wish the car was always that responsive

Second run:

Held the brake for launch at half throttle then progressed to WOT over about 1 second

Third run:

Floored around 25 MPH.

They seem like perfect shifts, right? I did a lot of driving today (bout 250 mi), and only time I got the trans to act up was on the highway leaving the very top of third gear. The gear transition in whole took like a second and a half to complete.

I do like my car, but I think I'm going to have to get a manual for my next car. I like telling the transmission where to be without it adding its own 2 cents. If they had a 5 spd SSEi..... I'd never stop driving.

I think GM got a little controlling in the 1997 model year...

My 95 PCM will almost max out... I get the 2-1 shift as high as 38-40 Mph... And the 1-2 shift is forced at 49 Mph.... The 2-3 is forced at 89 Mph...

But it feels as if the 95 on the Early chip had skip shift... as in you are going 35 Mph and you stomp it the trans just goes to first.... You don't even feel it go to second then first..

Its funny on the 95 Van it does go to second then first...

The 95 Bonneville was a strange beast to say the least..

Some of your shudders could be cause by tranny heat as well... Hard to say at this point what may be causing the issue..

Intense PCM gave me the skip shift capabilities. Highest 2-1 speed is 35.
