heres the deal, I am trying to buy a 97sse for a parts car mainly for the series 2 drivedrain, and to swap over the interior into my 92 (I know its alot of work along with wiring) but it has 2 front subframe mounts broken. This car is only 20 miles from me and I can take it slow on backroads, but does anyone have any ideas on a quick way to tie up, or temporarily re-mount this to the frame for one quick trip? After that it woud just sit here and wait to be torn down, it would never go back on the road again. I was thinking maybe drilling some hole around the subframe, jacking it up tight to the frame, and using a some heavy duty zipties, several of them, to hold it together for one last trip. Any thought on that? I'm sure some of you have had this happen somewere and rigs a temp fix to get home. I really could use some ideas here guys, and thanx for reading.

here is the original posting, and there are a couple pics of the frame were the subframe broke off:

Thanx again

My opinion?

Drive it back as is. If you're that worried, strap it to the strut tower bar. As long as the front two mounts are holding it won't give too much, just take it easy.

Once you're done with the engine swap, are you parting it out or would you be willing to sell the frame and interior to somebody like me? I'd be fixing it and playing mad scientist with an engine swap. Our SE has a junk interior and I don't like the car enough to fix it, being a base model and all...

Edit:
I drove the SSEi without half a frame for 85 miles without major problems...

Why not hold out for something supercharged?

But like they said, most everything in that condition has made it home.

Just take it easy. What are the chances of renting a car dolly? $20 uhaul rental is cheap insurance.

thanx for the input guys, and mattstrike, I actually plan on swapping the interior and everything from it. Unfortunatly there wont be much left but an empty shell. I wont be using the sse ground effects though. I am not sure what condition the rest of the frame is, but if its not bad I may cut out what I need for mine, but I would probably be willing to let you have the shell once I'm done, but it will be awhile, since this will probably be a winter project in the garage. But I'll let you know if I can get it. The guy accepted my offer of 500 for the car, but I have to beat another guy to the deal.

just a little update to this thread, the guy agreed to $500 for the car, but someone else beat me to it, by about an hour. Odd thing is a guy further away was parting out his 94 ssei, and I asked him about the bumpers and cladding, he got back to me and we made a deal on $700 for the whole car. Its in great shape, bad frame rot though, and hes even gunna deliver it to my house for me on thursday. So in a wierd turn of events I guess I did wind up holding out for something supercharged :)
