Post subject:  OEM Security system ?

Hey All,

Curious if anyone is knows much about the factory security system in my '94? I've had an issue with it a couple times, that does not seem like 'normal operation'.

Story is, one of my key fobs does not reliably lock and unlock the doors. Might just be a worn out battery, but even so, I think something might be wrong. If I lock and unlock the drivers door with the key, the horn starts honking it's alarm. Inserting the key, starting the car, relocking the door with key, nothing will make it shut up. Both times it has required removal of the negative battery cable at the battery. If you haven't had to try and do this with the horn blaring right in your face, you can't imagine how miserable this task is. :banghead:

Even looking thru the owners manual, i cannot find much info about how the security system is supposed to work. Anyone know more about it, or have a way to disable it completely?

Next time the alarm is going off go to the passenger door and unlock it. That might stop the alarm, it worked that way in my 95 Bonnie I had. I just figured that something was wore out in the driver's door and never really worried about it.

That is an interesting idea, actually. Thinking back years ago to the first time I ever set off the horn alarm, it was at the passenger door. Unfortunately, I don't recall exactly what I did to quiet it that time, but I might have used the key in the door possibly. Thankfully THAT time it was in my own garage, and not at the crowded grocery store parking lot. . . .

Of course a lot of this worry might be put to rest if I would just get the fob button to work, a new battery or replace the whole thing if needed. But it could be an opportunity to learn a bit more about the alarm.

Thanks for the response!
