Is the car all the way in Park? And, is the button on the shifter fully sprung out? If either of those aren't true, you won't be able to get the key out.

Might want turn the ignition on, press the brake, shift out of park and into neutral, then back into park, release the brake, and turn the key back. See if that works. brake-shift-key interlock issue of some sort most likely.

Thanks for the responces, turns out the shift knob button was not quite fully popped out,a little flick of my finger and the key was in my hand again.I actually did not mess with it until I got to work, that is when I noticed the problem with the shift button.I put a 99 cobra head shift knob on the car not too long ago, well at least I know what to watch for if it ever happpens again. I used to have this issue with my cobra head all the time, too. The rubber boot/cover on the cobra head button doesn't always stay in its proper position. For whatever reason, it will slide up into the top of the cobra head and doesn't allow the button to fully retract. When that happens you can't get the key out of the ignition. Just a heads up if it happens again...
