I've tried to replace the fuel filter on my 99 LeSabre, and the thing does not want to budge. I've hit it with PB Blaster for a good long while (over a week beforehand, and a month prior to that attempt), then tried vise grips on the filter nut and the line nut. The fuel line is so rusty I'm worried about snapping it and having to make a new line, so not much force has been applied.

Any suggestions on how to free the sucker, or should I let a mechanic bung it up?

They can be a real PITA. What I've done in the past is use vise grips on the line nut, and a large crescent wrench on the filter nut. Then, try turning the filter - not the line nut. That way, you don't have to worry as much about messing up the fuel line.

If it was really bad, I used a small pipe wrench on the filter instead of the crescent wrench.

Is it metal on one side or both sides? If its both sides, you're gonna have one HELL of a time getting that thing off without busting something...

if its plastic on one side, and metal on the other...do what Archon said...twist the FILTER only. Keep the line dead steady.

I rub grease around the whole area when re assembling...yeah, it gets dirty and attracts dust, but it keeps it from rusting usually and makes it much easier to get off the next time. Also, don't forget to throw some teflon tape on the threads of the filter to assist in the next change.

Remember, it needs to be changed every 15k

Have you gotten a line wrench for at least the fuel line side of the metal-to-metal end? That gives a much more even grip around the nut. Maybe you can borrow a set.

You've used rust removers to try to break away part of it.

or you have option B)

cut the lines... buy a universal filter, 6 inches of fuel line, and 4 hose clamps..
