So, sadly, this may be my last post in the mech section. Let's us just hope it's not miscategorized.
As I long feared, my Bonneville would die just after I'd filled up a nearly empty tank with $4.50/gal premium. My goal now, is to siphon it near-all out. But I've tried, and have been able to acquire nary a drop.
My question: is there some kind of particulate filter in the filler neck preventing access to the tank, or is my hose (6') too short, or is there some trick that I'm just unaware of? Any help in reclaiming some of this near liquid-gold would be greatly appreciated.

Yes there is a check valve in the filler to prevent siphoning.

Is the fuel pump still working? You could disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail, hook up a temp line to run into your fuel can. Then either keep priming the pump with the ignition, or just hotwire the pump to pump it all out.

On my 95, when the fuel pump quit,(right after i filled the tank!), me and my dad unbolted the fuel filter and stuck the fuel line into a gas can, and hooked 12v to the fuel pump test lead, and let the fuel pump run until the tank was empty. The test lead is located behind your battery in between the fender and the battery, its a green plug with a female spade terminal. once you put 12v on the test lead the pump will run continuously. I dont know if your 96 has one, but its worth looking for.

Good information - thanks!
The fuel rail sounds like it might be the best idea for me...not if I can just figure out which one is the send, and which one is the return...
Cheers!
