OK, here's the dilemna. I was driving to work the other day and the red brake warning light came on and started chiming at me. I immediately pulled over to check for a leak or possible broken brake line. No luck. Brake fluid level was ok as well. Started the car back up, and the light was still on but no chime. Put the car back in drive and then it started chiming again. It will not turn off. Everytime I drive the car it keeps chiming at me and will not go off. I put the car in the garage and have been driving my truck. Any ideas what it could be? I drive 60 miles a day to work, and I'm sick of driving my truck
getting 10 mpg.

Would the parking brake be partially depressed?? I think that triggers the light too.

Not that I know of. I pressed and depressed on it a few times. Even my local mechanic seems to be baffled by it. Is there a parking brake safety switch or something that could have gone bad?

Yup, thats a daily problem I have been dealing with lately. My parking brake cable needs to be adjusted because its way to loose. This causes the parking brake pedal to be floppy and trigger the light if its not in its fully upright position.

Pull the parking brake back with your foot and see if the light turns off. Otherwise the switch in your proportioning valve is bad.

I've tried that also. Is that switch located in the master cylinder? My local guy just told me that it was the master cylinder itself.

Not sure on these cars. On older cars it is a separate valve that if one side's line blows, the valve moves to that side by being pushed from the other side's pressure, sealing off those lines and setting off the light.
