Just finished a complete engine overhaul yay!

Bad news, was taking a celebratory lap around the neighborhood, upon pulling into the driveay, a puddle of fresh 5W-30 was pooling on the ground as I left the engine running.

I removed the oil pan and reseated the seal, restarted motor, still leaking like crazy. It appears to be coming from the Rear Seal Area.

I did not use the specified main seal tool, just my hands.

I DO recall pushing the seal all the way towards the front of the motor while installing, was this too far? Could this cause the leak?

On a side note I did end up with one extra bolt, large, very short, has washer on it, fine thread, however I don't think it would be related to this leak, she is otherwise running smooth and burning rubber.

Here is what it looked like after install, the brown ring circled in red, I have a feeling that is supposed to be underneath the engine wall, allowing for oil to fall into the pan.

That seal is pushed in too deep. It should be just flush with the outside surface of the cover plate. The large bolt sounds like maybe a flywheel bolt? You got a picture of the bolt?

How did you manage to knock the rear main all the way in? Should be flush with the outside of the block...

It was fathers day and I let my dad help out, can I use that excuse? :ack:

I know they do on the front, but Do our engines have a oil slinger on the rear?

Is is this kit I am supposed to use?, or just the one with the ring, nails and rubber sticks?
I cannot think of where this gasket fits...unless its for the front cover?

thanks,

The rear of the L27 Block is solid there is no plate... So you would not use that gasket kit..

Thanks Jr, now should only take a day to do a quick change out of the seal.

How about that oil slinger on the rear?

When I get her up and running (again!) Ill be sure to make vid or post a slide show for all to enjoy.

Thanks again everyone.
