Hi All,

The transmission on my 95 bonneville is dead. I have found a replacement unit
with reasonably low miles. It's currently attached to an engine, which is also
good. Does anyone know if it would be easier to keep them together and swap out
both as a unit, or just swap the transmission? It looks in the manual like a
transmission swap would be possible with the engine in place.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Scott

It's (apparently) out of a 99 Buick Regal. Not sure how compatible those two are...?

It all depends on if you have a lift or not.

If you have a lift: Just replace the trans. Support the engine from the top and drop the subframe and tranny out the bottom. IMO, this is easier.

If you don't have a lift: You will have go out the top, and in order to get the trans out the top, you need you pull the engine with it. It would be up to you at that point whether you wanted to keep the original engine or put the Regal one in.

Why not? Whats the difference between a 95 L36 and a 99 L36?

No worries, the transmission is out of a 95 bonneville, it's just the engine that's from the buick.

Thanks for your help! No lift, so I'm going out the hood....

Cheers,

Scott

Do this before the motor goes in:
