First, you don't need the adapter unless you're bypassing the ICM/PCM control of spark and using an MSD DIS2 or DIS4 ignition system, which is a waste of time and money.

Without the adapters, the coils bolt right up. HOWEVER.......

......the MSD coils aren't really going to give any power over the S2 L67 coils. The 97 and newer L67 coils are already a step 'hotter' than the L27/L36/S1 L67 coils to begin with, and the MSD's are only marginally better.

My advice is to save your money and get replacement coils from a 97 or newer Buick Park Avenue Ultra, Olds LSS, Grand Prix GTP or Bonneville SSEi, ONLY if you have an ignition problem to begin with.

Moving to 92-99.

Not to "jack" the thread but,

Could the L67 coils be used on an L36 with no negative effect ?

I see that the ICM is the same for the L36 and L67 so I assume this swap would be possible.

92 was a mixed year. Some had the Magnavox 'brick', some (all L67) had the AC Delco 3-coil setup. So any 92 and newer Delco setup (all 93 and newer, some of the 92's) are all cross-compatible with no issues.

97 and newer L67 coils are a slight upgrade to the earlier/lesser coils. IIRC, the insulators on the bottom of the 97 and newer L67 coils are blue, the rest are yellow. I'd have to tear my cars apart to be sure.

Not sure if it matters but I have some that are grey. I don't remember what year they were.

thanks Willwren
yes i do need at least 2 coils as two of mine are badly corroded and pitted

i think ill go with just the coil for now as i am not going to be bypassing the direct ignition any time soon
i figure also if nothing else it will "dress up" the under hood a bit

Yes, blue tabs indicate 97+ L67 coils. Yellow tabs...are from 3400 V6's I think. Grey tabs are 3800 coils.

new coils arrived today...the one bright spot in a otherwise storm cloud day
now to bolt them in on the weekend.
