this might become a useful thread hopefully...

I was detailing the Bonne this morning and found a water spot on the rear passenger side floor.
We had some hard rains last night, this problem only occurs when it rains / downpours for long periods of time. like an hr straight of nonstop rain. i've noticed it for a year now but figured it didn't hurt anything and left it alone. but its now annoying me.

There are no signs of water coming from the side pillars, the rear door seal maybe? when i have more patience and my temper calms down ill take time and look for water marks.

wonder if this is related to my dome light failure issue?? Howwwww do i fix this? Where are the sunroof drains located? my front floor is absolutely dry too.

You could have leaking front sunroof drains. It seems quite common on the 2000+s. I just fixed mine, which were leaking, following the write-up that Haro did, and is in techinfo.
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1688 It may not seem like much of an issue, but the water gets trapped under the carpet backing, and can lead to some serious rust problems in the floor boards.

I'd suggest that you pull the carpet out of the car. When you pull it out, you'll likely be amazed at how much water is trapped under the carpet, and in the rubber backing.

I suppose that it is possible it could be causing your lighting problem. I'd more expect that you would have the opposite problem of an open, due to a bad ground, than a short that blows fuses.

You need to completely gut the car, have fun! Been there done that...

I really doubt its a bad ground, as the grounds on 2k+ are mounted faily high up from the floorboards.

Actually, grounds 300, 301, and 303 are under the seats, bolted to the front cross member, but still pretty close to the floor pan. The closest those come to any lighting is 301, under the passenger seat - the farther outboard one. That's the ground for the passenger rear door module, amongst other things.

On mine, when I pulled the carpeting, 300 showed some rust starting to form around it, but as that is for the radio and cd player, which work fine, it's probably ok.

Either way..I'd still be looking elsewhere for your short.

Haro's write-up saved me a tremendous amount of time in finding where the connections are. I'd recommend it as a preventative maintenance measure. Clamping them before they come loose and leak is a lot easier than also having to clean up the mess after they leak.

If am I fairly sure that in may case its just my passenger front drain line.

Question: Do I really need to gut the ENTIRE interior? Sounds like a MAJOR project and major PITA! I reviewed the Haro write up and was wondering if there would be any "short cuts" to get to the spot where the line likely disconnected. I would really prefer avoiding the removal the the seats and consol and just get right to the firewal spot in question...

Suggestions?

Removal of the seats and carpet is only necessary if there is standing water under the carpet. If you want to skip that step, you will need to remove the front trim pieces and pull the carpet back as far as you can to get under there to cut the rubber. IMO, it would be easier with the carpet out. While you have it that far, you can do some MAJOR cleaning. Good luck!

I just did my friend's drains without pulling the carpeting. It would be easier with the carpet out on the driver's side, mainly because of the emergency brake cable. The passenger side I did without having to move the carpeting at all.

Pull the rear seat, and the rear trim around the door opening. Then, pull up the carpet some in the back to see if you have any standing water. You can have plenty of water back there, and have dry carpeting. If everything is dry, you won't have to pull the carpet, unless you want to do some cleanup.

yeah so my carpets are right now all over the driveway. im taking the Buick tomorrow cause im not about to put the seats back on. woohoo a LOT of work.

If i cant fix it im sending the car over to the mechanic (for the light issue that is) i ran outta time for the lines, but waters comin from the firewall.

Question: how much do new carpets cost? mine are all moldy. i dont have allergies but mold, no way. Neutral is the interior color of my car. Im thinking about new ones unless i can figure a way to de-mold my rug bottoms. this is fuuuuuun haha

The front carpet piece is around $300 new from GMPD, and the rear is about $200.

Ed Morad has some tan carpets from a GXP on ebay right now for $100
