A few years ago, my '01 SSEi kept developing problems, so I replaced it with a truck that was really what I needed. I didn't get rid of my Bonneville and now I think I'm ready to really fix it up nice. It's got 270,000 miles on it, but a new crate motor was put in at about 150,000 and a rebuilt transmission was put in just a few months before I parked it. When I decided to replace it, it had a dead skip on one cylinder - don't remember which one it was. Front bank though. It ran hot constantly and the straw that broke the camel's back - it had no oil pressure at idle. Checked on an after market gauge and the oil pressure was non-existent until you gave it a little gas. My question is, if you were going to pull your motor and really go through it real good to make it "all that it can be" and had plenty of time to do it right, what would you do. The budget is certainly limited, but I'm not in a hurry and want to get it in great shape for a spare for when a friend or family member needs it, or to get it ready for one of my grandchildren. The oldest is 6 right now, so no hurry there. Obviously, I'll pull the motor and look it over real good and make sure there's no damage from the running hot and lack of oil pressure. BTW - when the oil pressure went away, I didn't drive it any more. Thanks in advance! I value your opinion. |
