On the way home from fireworks tonight the windsheild was fogging up so I turned the temp up a bit and switched to defrost. Once I was sweating and the fog was gone I switched it back to cooler air and switched it back to vents. Well I got my cool air but it stayed on defrosters. It will switch from the floor to defrost but it will not switch to the vents. Any idea wich accuator I need to replace? I am a taller guy and its hard to stand on my head and look up under the dash to watch them work to see what one it is. BTW this is on my 02 SLE

You have to replace the mode actuator. It requires going relatively deep into the dash.

More info on that here: 2000-2005-other-than-gxp/topic25362.html

Scroll down to the HVAC stuff in the interior section. Those Photobucket links should still hopefully work.

finally got a chance to mess with this thing a little at lunch time today. If I stick my head up under the drivers side dash I can see both motors rotating when I change thins. I think one moved when i changed the temp and the other moved when I pushed the mode button. Now something new that I did notice. defrost blows out defrost. floor blows out defrost. vent blows out floor. defrost/floor blows out both defrost and floor. No matter what I try nothing will come out the vents? Is there any chance this is as simple as the control module when crazy and just needs to be replaced? That would sure be a hell of a lot easier than digging in the dash

little update... I had a spare control module in a parts car out back of my shop so I swaped it out since it takes like 10 minutes, and I have the same results. Looks like I get to do some serious digging in the dash
