Cadillac is a car brand

Catalytic Converter is an exhaust component.

Should be 2.5". However, they make direct fit replacements, so you don't need to worry about this.

Since you didn't list which model you have, I believe these are the GM parts numbers;

3.8L V6 = 10368894
4.6L V8 = 10360168

However, it is best to give them your VIN for exact.

I'd get a cat instead of straight piping it. You'll not only fail emissions, but the car will reek. You'll hate it at stop lights.

Anything but the GXP is the same engine, the 3.8L V6.

My Regal and GP don't have cats and honestly I don't think I've ever noticed an odd smell of any sort. On the contrary I've more often noticed a smell with cars that do have cats such as my truck or my old regal. It's not an unpleasant smell or anything though, just something I never notice when I drive the Regal.

Am I in the minority here?

What do your clothes smell like.

Mine from the GTO reek.

I used a Magnaflow 99306HM Universal on my 03, it was 85 and got it welded on for 80, you need a cat, do not go without one, this was the cheapest path, code 0420 and clogged cats resolved, pass emissions and right for the environment

in all honesty, when I had issues with my 2005 SLE I thought the cat was plugged up because it was smelling hot and bogging down under stress. so I beat the cat inners out.. and although it was not the issue I had it did run better. The thing is after I found my engine issue I did like the others said and noticed it was definitely making a toxic smell and it sure as heck did throw a O2 code saying the cat efficiency was low. Not only that but the hollowed out cat was much louder. the end result was a direct replacement cat from walker $150 plus gasket and clamp. if you want to make it right, do it right, fix the cat.

I could go either way with the smell thing... If the engine is running lean or rich, the cat puts out a sulfur smell I absolutely cannot tolerate.

I've noticed that in my camaro, which has a cam, that no cat does have a bit of a smell, but it's overpowered by the oil burning off the exhaust from the leaking rear main. But it's just an odor as opposed to something that reeks.

The only time I'll not put a new cat back in is if I'm planning on replacing it a short time down the road, or my plans for the project vehicle are still in flux. All my project cars have one, or two. The only reason the Camaro doesn't right now is that I bought it that way and I want to put a true dual exhaust on it, which means I have to plan the exhaust accordingly and didn't want to spend $150 on something I'm just going to rip out and redo in a few months.
