I'm getting a "Check Gas Cap Message" on the DIC, and removed the Evap Vent Valve to check for any obstructions, dirty filter, etc. I blew everything out with the air hose, and have read that lubing the valve is sometimes necessary. Anyone know exactly what and/or where? Was looking at just spraying some WD-40 into the white fitting where the spring-loaded valve is, but not exactly sure this is what is needed/reccommended?

Thanks,

Mark

I opened it up, and cleaned the filter and parts with some brake cleaner. Then I used some silicone grease to lube the valve. WD40 probably won't lubricate well enough.

Many thanks! It's back together with no issues and no "Check Gas Cap" Message!

Message to "Check Gas Cap" was back this morning, along with the SES light. Went to Autozone, was throwing P0455 code. Any ideas as to what to look at next? All vacuum lines from the canister to the tank and evap solenoid look good, and solenoid was cleaned and lubed. This is starting to get irritating. Did test drive a G8 GT this morning though...

Was the solenoid cleaned and lubed too, or just the vent valve? The solenoid is under the hood. The vent valve under the car. Did you use the silicone lube when you lubed the vent valve, or did you just use the WD40? If you didn't use the silicone grease, try it again with that. Also, if you haven't already...clean up around the filler tube where the gas cap seals, as it can get rusty.

Only lubed the vent valve; could you point me in the right direction under the hood as to where (or what it's next to or near) the solenoid is?

Thanks again for your help,

Mark

And you lubed it with silicone grease? WD40 will not seal it well enough, nor have the lube last very long.
This is what the evaporative solenoid looks like. The arrow points to it. I believe yours will be on the front part of the engine, near the fuel rail.

You can try cleaning it, but it is generally left alone. I'd check all the lines leading to and from it, however.

Thanks, again. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.
