Good afternoon. Nice forum here. I'm new.

So my '05 SE is due for tires and I'm having trouble deciding what to do. It is running well and has no real modifications.

I always thought it might be neat to upgrade the wheels but is that a good idea? There's really nothing wrong with the steel rims and they look somewhat cool. I repainted the covers once and they're ok. But on the other hand I really like how the GXPs look. If I do change to the GXP or SLE rims would that mess up the handling or the instruments? Is there a new third party maker of rims I should check out? I don't like wasting money but on the other hand if I can make the car look better and run better it might be a fun project. What do you think?

Lots of people have upgraded to GXP wheels or any aftermarket wheel. A simple Google search will give you ideas to what they would look like. As long as you get a tire that is similarly sized you will have no issues with the instruments. 235/50R18 on the GXP will be similar to your 226/60R16 on your SE. Keep in mind larger diameter tires will be more expensive.

I have several sets of GXP wheels available if you're interested. Also ones with tires. andrew.suderman@gmail.com

Not a fan of steelies myself but if they work and aren't corroded then nothing wrong with them.

A set of bent 5s or GXPs would make it look a lot nicer. There are no TMPS sensors to worry about.

Tire pressure sensors? I think my car has them. It's warned me several times when I've had flats.

Interesting. I think they look really nice. Do you know if they weigh less than the steel?

No tire pressure sensors ever in the Bonneville. They use the wheel speed sensors to detect if there is a flat by the diameter of the tire.

An 18" wheel is almost always going to be heavier than a 16" wheel. The 18" GXP wheel weighs 24lbs, not sure about the steels.

You can run wheels with a 114.3mmx5 pattern as long as the hub bore is 70.3-70.5mm. If it's smaller, it won't work. If it's bigger, it needs to be big enough to run hub centric rings. Width and offset would need to be similar to stock.

That's genius. I always wondered how it knew. Works really well too. Saved me from trouble several times.
