like the subject says i have an awful noise at idle and its starting to bug me and its slowly gettin louder, it sounds like its coming from the 3.5" idler pulley on the sc belt. i just replaced all of the pulleys i could, that u can get from the autoparts store.. the pulley is a smooth one. once i hit throttle it goes away so could it be just bad bearings?

Can you tell us which pulleys you replaced:



You can also give each pulley a shot of WD-40 while running and see if the sqeak goes away. That usually helps identify the bad one. You can also remove the belts and check every pully and accessory for any roughness or lack of smooth rotation.

How old is the belt? That is prime suspect for a screeching noise. It could also be the tensioner going weak and allowing the belt to slip. Those would be the first things I would check.

I think it could be the ac pump. I know it happens to a lot of GM vehicles, especially cavaliers, plus im getting a noise in my car too, and from what it sounds it about the same as what youre experiencing.

i did spray pulley 9 with wd40 and it went away but then it came back pretty quick. so could it be a combination of the pulley and the belt? i dont know how old the belt is, i have changed it since it bought it in 2008.
