I've only had the car three days, and have just been driving my work commute, but twice I have pressed down to accelerate (not floored) and the downshift is accompanied by a hard "thunk." Just happens once, and the car moves brisk afterwards.

I plan on doing engine and trans fluid change very soon since I want to get the full synthetic stuff in the car, but could this be just trans wear (90k miles) or one of these failing motor mounts I've been reading about?

Could be a motor mount, or a solenoid in the transmission.

Sounds like a motor mount. Check the front one, I've heard they like to go bad.

For transmission fluid, a good synthetic fluid is Valvoline Maxlife ATF. I've had mine in for 16k miles, it looks brand-new and shifts like it went in yesterday.

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.
