Well, after my 2000 SSEi being 100% dry for the past 10 years, it appears either my valve cover gasket or cylinder head gasket is leaking oil (I haven't had a chance to examine it closely yet). Someone told me this is pretty common with these vehicles and Pontiac has a recall to fix this potential fire hazard. Is this true and if so, who fixes it now... Chevrolet?

Thanks.

Martin

I don't know about the recall part of your question, but I do know that any GM dealer (Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, or GMC) can service Pontiacs, including recalls and warranty work.

The recall doesn't cover Bonnevilles, only W-Bodies (Grand Prix, Regal, Impala, Monte Carlo) with the 3800. The gaskets will run you about $50 and an hour and a half of work. It would be really hard for the HG to leak oil, as the only oil that goes through it is non-pressurized oil draining from the valves. I guarantee you it's the Valve Cover gaskets.

Felpros are $40 from Rockauto.

And after 10years it was probably about time they started to leak.
