The HVAC controller on the 03 is always displaying a negative temp. It is 73°F outside and its showing -22°F. Its weird that if I unplug it, it doesn't display the three dash marks (---) like it should. I have swapped in a known good temp sensor and it didn't change. I also swapped a known good HVAC controller.

The FSM isn't helping either.

Did you perform the HVAC Diagnostic System Check?
Inspect the ambient air temperature sensor for obstructions or improper mounting.
With a scan tool, inspect for current or history codes relating to the ECT in the powertrain control module (PCM).
With a scan tool, inspect for current or history codes relating to the VSS in the PCM.
Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ambient air temperature sensor.
Test the ambient air temperature sensor resistance.
Replace the ambient air temperature sensor.
Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

I don't have Marty's Tech2 right now, so I can't really do any scanning, just with the Aeroforce.

By looking at the schematics, I'm guessing its a probelm with the Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM). Any other ideas?

Stupid question, did you check for continuity at the plug? Shorted wire somewhere? Since you don't have a TechII, I'd check that out, if you haven't already. Doesn't sound like the issue, but who knows.

I had the same thing happen on my grand marquis. It finally turned out to be a cold solder joint on the cluster circuit board. Either find an electrical diagram to show what the connector pin on the cluster circuit board is for the temperature, or just try soldering all connector pins.

The Bonneville doesn't use the cluster to display the temp, its on the HVAC controls, which I have already swapped with a known good one and it had the same symptoms.

Is there 5 volts at the connector for the sensor? From the circuit, it looks as if you would be right. It's either a problem in the IPM or the wiring.

5 volts on mine and Shannon's car... but this one is only 4 volts. Gotta be IPM. Marty... need the tech2!
