Drove home from a friends today and the oil pressure was pegged at 120. Where do I start?

Yep, indicator of a bad sending unit.

Happened to me also. Common problem. Just install a new sender.

Good, I was worried it was something mechanically damaging.

Do we have a techinfo on installing a new sender? Also, how much do they typical run?

It's not physically hard, just a PITA to get at and on and off.

I am not at all familiar with the 2000+, but it seems that the pressure sender would need to be in a pressure passage like the oil filter adapter plate. I would think the oil level sender might be in the side of the pan. Have these cars changed that much since '95?

this is the location. I guess front/side/back isn't very descriptive. Some take the tire off and go through that way, others put it up on ramps/jacks and go from underneath

Yikes my guess was totally off. I'll get to this next time I change the oil.

What is the part number btw? All I'm finding on rockauto.com is the oil pressure sensor connector, not the sensor itself.

Oil Pressure Switch, or it can also be called the Oil Pressure Sender or sensor. The sensor on the front of the oil pan is the oil level sensor.

You don't need to wait for an oil change, but it is most accessible from under the car.

AIRTEX Part #1S6772 $38.89
ACDELCO Part #2131650 {#12584940} Engine Oil Pressure Sensor $41.79
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part #PS309 {WITH GAUGE} $44.99

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. First I'm budgeting the cam/headers.

Hi all, I know this is an old post but I didn't see what it would hurt to follow up, while acknowledging the prior discussion.

If the sensor is bad wouldn't it also peg with the engine off? My pressure is pegging but only with the engine running.
I know it has the right oil and the level is good. I changed the filter incase it was plugged, no effect.

It does seem like a sensor because it goes to just a tad under Max and doesn't move one bit.

Thanks.

Engine off, key off? I'd replace it, just to rule it out. If not, we can go from there.

It's the sensor, it only pegs with the car on .
