Hey guys, with the snow and cold temperatures coming this weekend...
I was wondering how long can I leave the factory engine block heater plugged in, this is on my Grand Prix GXP.

Run an extension cord to it. :) I have an extension cord running to the Suburban and it's out in our court. Just keep the plug part under the hood.

You're getting snow in Florida?

Lol. Sorry, I need to update my profile.... I returned to Indianapolis. My concern about the engine heater was the length of time being plugged in, The Kenworths I drove were always plugged in during the winter.

Ahh, gotcha...

To be honest, unless the car sits for a long period of time and/or you fear you have a weaker battery, in these moderate 20* - 30* temps, you don't really need it. If we were below zero and well below that, I can see it and I would leave it running as long as needed.

I run an old heating pad (yea, the heating pad you use for muscle spasm's, earache's etc), out to the Suburban as the Vortec 5000's and Vortec 5700's are a PITA with their rotor and distributor caps when it gets damp or cold and damp. They refuse to start. You can crank the ever living sh*t out of them and they won't start. They were this way when new and I replaced countless ones in service over the years, much less on a 20 y/o one. :D I think I've been through 4 on this truck alone. Anyway, I run the heating pad for the most part, non-stop, especially when I know it's going to rain/snow.
