ok, so this may sound like a silly question, but... I put my car into park the other day, and my thumb slipped off the button on the gear shift, the whole button flew out of the shifter, and I have to manually put the button into the shifter everytime I use it now. The button will not stay in there though, it just keeps coming back out!! Does anyone know how to fix this? It's an 05 Bonneville GXP, and the top of the shifter is metal, if that makes a difference? please help! :(

I had this same problem with a 2000 Olds Intrigue I owned but not until 150k+ miles. I just used some super glue on the back or end of the button but it was still fragile. Not sure about your car but when I asked around about mine I was told it would take a new shifter handle to fix. Looks like you have a newer vehicle that would be worth it to fix though, best of luck.

This seems to have happened to a lot of GXP owners. The only real fix is replacing the shifter knob.

I find that I like the SSEi full leather shifter knob better. The metal insert on a conventional plastic knob is kind of tacky :P

:stupid:

The SSEi knob feels better, the GXP knob looks better. I prefer the one that feels better, lol.

I had the same problem, even though i like the GXP shift knob better i wasn't going to pay $80 (ebay) for one... So i went to the local yard and got one from a 2005 or 2006 impala. Image
