I have had this road tar on my car for about a year now. It has been bothering me for just as long as its been there. I have tried Goof Off, Goo B Gone, Simple Green, Super Clean, Orange Glow, carb cleaner, and gasoline. Nothing will get this stuff off that I know of except a torch to heat it up and some diesel fuel (thats how we clean our tools) I surely do not want to take a torch to my car.
I am wondering if I should just go for broke and sand it off since I plan on painting my hood, front bumper in the spring.
The ironic part of this is it was my crew that laid the tar down and I should have known better than to park where I did.

Any ideas to remove this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

^My suggestion as well.

Clay bar would be my next step after that as well.

WD-40. Spray it on, soak it. Let it set overnight, then spray again. It will take many applications to get that off of there, depending on how thick it is.

(Let it be known that Lacquer thinner and brake cleaner are about the last two things you should use on your paint right after spent nuclear reactor rods).

Bug and Tar remover or WD-40. Best two choices.

After you get it off, this Techinfo may be of further assistance:

Let it be known, that a certain Admin also has a product made by Rain-X that you apply to the car BEFORE such nasties come in contact with it, and it's a water-based product so it washes off with the nasties. This certain Admin also forgets he has the stuff before heading to the dragstrip on a regular basis:

Please note the picture above is a PREVENTIVE measure, not a cleaning product. But bug/tar remover or WD-40 will remove the problem with a little work, and won't damage the paint.

Only after the tar is off, then you need to wash, clay, and wax it, because the bug and tar remover destroys wax.

Thank you all for your suggestions, WD-40 seems to have done some good but I did not have the time to go all out on the cleaning. I will finish it up this weekend.
You guys rock!
