You could probably get twenties on there.

Go figure out what tire size is equivalent to the stock size, and what's in your budget. That will determine what size of rims to get. Tire size calculators are readily available online. Then go to TireRack and price out tires in each size.

Tires for those larger rims can top 4 figures for a replacement set. A set of 17's will be much cheaper to replace tires on.

And, throwing a set of heavy rims onto a 1996 car is asking for transmission trouble later on.

The bigger you go, the worse the ride and the wear and tear on the car. Good luck.

I've seen them on like 24's on Craigslist. The car looked like crap and probably curbed them everywhere it went, but somehow they fit them...

ive had 22`s on my car since 2000, i never had transmission problems whatsoever, just get thin tires. Never got my car lifted so the rims to fit. My transmission went out recently due to something about a cluth broke or something, but the originally tranny did had over 225,000 miles on it.

xvr, your car (engine) is a totally different situation than a monster-low-end torquer like the topic author's car. Larger wheels will negatively affect braking, accelleration, and ride/handling.

And yes, I think anything over 18" looks stupid on these cars.

You speak for yourself, i never had any problem with acceleration, braking or ride handling, this is from experience, since my Bonneville 2 yrs old she`s been on custom wheels. Bough her in summer 97( 15,000) miles. In 1998, i got 17`s on her and in 2000 i purchased 22`s and currently have 20`s. I never had any problems what so ever with the handling or transmission problems. I seen some ssei with 24`s on them. As in looks wise, that`s your opinion. And i had my car since it was kinda new, and i have the basic model

It doesn't really matter what you THINK you feel. The laws of physics and general automotive engineering are fact.

Your braking and accelleration were both negatively affected, as were your cornering grip and ride quality. Those are physical facts.

Bigger rims require bigger brakes, IMO.

And to xvr843, I will bet you that a car, same trim/year, with factory rims will out accelerate/brake your car. Thats what we are getting at.

But a person that goes big hoops doesnt care much about performance anyways, so it is a moot point anyways.

Can you throw up some pictures of your car with these wheels?...I'm not a big fan of the huge wheels but I'd like to see how yours looks.

Nice looking rims XV (youtube).

At times I feel where your coming from wanting to dress up the bonnie with the 2's. But over time you will run into problems...more dodging potholes, expensive tires, inner and outter tie rods, worn out brakes etc.

Age 24When I ran/run my 22's i did a complete overhaul of my suspension. I have a SE and i changed brakes, rotors, and capilers, tie rods, 1 axle, hub barrens to SSEI to compensate for the added weight.

Also, i grew up a bit...(Age 21-22) I started with 16s on a cutlass graduated to a 20. Bonnie slabbed on the cutlass 20s. and loved the look. in 2010 i purchased some 22s for a very low price and my bonnie demanded respect. (Age 24)But now as I drive my to work more and upscale events I don't need that type of attention per se. I'm currently running 18's (GXP) and i love them. I'm willing to sell the 20s but i havent grown up enough yet to sell the 22s.

So in all its your car and there will be dangers (unwanted attention) and handling/alignment issues but hey you only live once.

Thank you xrob, atleast someone agree with me. but honestly i still have my original everything except engine and tranny. only changed my brakes once its entire life. i live in a very small town with only two stop lights so lol. Only had alignment done once its entire life due to i had a new transmission put in it due to the other one had a bad torque converter clutch so i went ahead and replace it with a used low mileage one. Oh yea about the pot holes, my 17`s got cracked because of one lol. But hey i only live once, im going to enjoy it i dont care what no one think, its about what i like, not what the next man think
