Year and Trim: 2003 SSEI
Hey guys,

I've been looking at installing a remote start for my 2003 SSEI. It seems like the combination of an idatalink ALCA (link here) along with just about any remote start system, especially the Compustar systems, is a really easy install that retains all of the factory functionality.

When I asked a local stereo/remote start place, they said it was a complex install that would cost over $400.

What am I missing?

There are no plug and play options for the Bonneville. It's all self wired, looking at wiring diagrams and tapping into 20-30 wires. It would take a couple hours to install plus the actual unit, hence their $400+ price tag. Sounds normal to me.

I thought I was the king of taking time to mull things over, but March 2020 to May 2021 between replies makes me a rank amateur! I salute you, sir! :salute:

:joke: :poke:

why exactly would it be 20-30 wires? It it basically just tapping into the wires behind the key? So the ignition, power, ground, and accessory? What else would be needed?

It would maybe be that easy on something with no options and no security, like a 1980's pickup...but here are some pics of a system I took out of a Bonneville.
