Hey guys I installed a pair of JBL GTO938 3 way 6x9's in the 00' to end up with a drastic drop in sound Quality. I researched and thought these were good for a stock Bose system because they stated that they are 2 ohm speakers that are compatible with the Bose set-up? Also read reviews of guys using these in Bose cars. 90% of the rear sound is now coming from the door speakers and there is "some" base from the JBL's, but that's it...a little bass and nothing else. Speaker polarity is correct btw. Was I off on the specs, under powered, need 2 way instead?? Kinda bummed here.

http://www.amazon.com/JBL-GTO938-9-Inch-3-Way-Loudspeaker/dp/B003KN2TGM/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1383450213&sr=1-1&keywords=jbl+gto+938

Thanks!

Sigh.... it seems like nobody actually finishes reading the Bose info. Here is a couple of quotes from my Bose thread.

Quote:
The rear 6x9's act as the systems subwoofer, they only get bass frequencies from the amp and they are two 1-ohm speakers wired in series to make a single 2-ohm subwoofer.

Quote:
Replacing the rear 6x9 speakers is not recommended unless you are going to amp them separately and disconnect the BOSE amp

By replacing the stock Bose speakers with 2 ohm ones you increased the impedance which lowers the volume output of the amplifier. Also those nice three way speakers aren't going to accomplish much when they only get bass frequencies from the amp.

I circumvented this by installing a 2 channel amp and running my 6x9s off that. But I also have an aftermarket head unit that has rca outputs.

Ok, I thought the Bose impedance was 2 ohm vs 1x2. Adding an additional amp was my next step for these speakers. Will this work for getting the signals to the amp directly from the factory rear wiring after the Bose amp, or do I need to splice in before the Bose amp and eliminate the signal passing through the amp ( without effecting the rear door speakers?
Or do I need a passive LOC like a AudioControl LC2i?

Thanks

any of those options will probably work if done correctly. However you will only be getting partial use out of those speakers, because they do not get any Mids or highs

I'm not sure if I saw your Bose thread or not, could you post a link?

Thanks!

The Bose amp has separate outputs for the rear shelf subs and the rear doors. The quickest fix is to connect the outputs to the doors to your new speakers on the rear shelf instead. The door speakers will not work but the ones on the rear shelf will sound a lot better and the location of the rear door speakers does add much the general audio environment for the car. Your 3 ways will provide as much bass as the original subwoofers on the shelf so the original outputs to the back shelf are not needed.

I'm using that LOC you posted, and it works well. Although I don't have a Bose system. I think Will(SSEiMan01) used one of those when he redid the Bose in his 01 SSEi.

I did at first use that LOC. But eventually I switched to an aftermarket HU. But I was running a 5 channel Kenwood the whole time along, it ended up sounding *dang* good.

Hey thanks a lot guys! I am starting with the deck speakers and replacing all of them then eventually to a 5 channel amp and HU. Time and money ;)

I ran the JBL GTO928's (2 way instead of 3 way) as rear deck sub replacements on the 04 GXP Monsoon. Seemed to work pretty good and offered an improvement in sound quality, even though I wasn't using the tweeter at all.

Looks like one channel output for each left and right from amp?
Image

It turns out that when I did the initial teat on the new speakers I had a bad connection with my Bluetooth device that caused poor sound quality because the rears have been hitting pretty nicely over the past week. It states in the specs that they are 2ohm speakers specifically for factory Bose type systems.

Glad they sound good to you. There is only one channel for the rears, I have had the Bose amp apart and saw the outputs on the board. You can also disconnect one speaker, the other one will get louder due to the change in impedance.because they are on one channel

I've tested them out on hip hop stuff and the rear view mirror is bouncing plenty as well as the outsides with the windows up. I am still going with the converter and aftermarket amp for the 6x9's.
I am not too proficient with wiring diagrams, I thought I read somewhere along the line that the rear doors were wired in with the subs somehow? If so how can I separate them so I have Bose power to doors and rears separate on 2 channel amp?

Thanks

No they are not connected in any way. It has 5 seperate channels front L/R rear L/R and subwoofer.

Whatever converter you run simply needs to connect to the rear deck output and go into the new aftermarket amp
