I know there has been previous postings but I didn't get the straight forward answers I wanted. I had a few questions about installation and what I will need. What has worked for others as far as an installation kit/mounting kit as well as wiring harness or any other parts. Will there be any sacrifices or roadblocks?

The most common replacement aftermarket HU's are single-din, so you need a dash kit. I recommend this one:
http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-4000 which uses the extra half din space for a cd pocket underneath the HU. Wiring harness adapters are easy for these cars, they're fairly common and standard. There are a couple 1.5 Din units out there, but I don't recommend them, as they don't update them very often to add modern expected features.

If you're going to add an amp in your trunk, you'll want to run a power cable from the battery to the trunk. There's a guide here with pictures for where to drill through the firewall to pass a power cable through. You'll also need to run line-level cables to the amp from the head unit, which is a good time to run new speaker wires, too.

If you have steering wheel controls for your radio there are adapters to keep their function. The PAC-SWI is the one most have had success with. If you have the heads-up unit, you'll lose the radio display on that. If you have the Bose unit you have to decide whether to keep the Bose amp and speakers or replace everything.

Wow, thank you. Will order the Metra 99-4000 kit. the PAC-SWI is out of my budget right now so I can live without the wheel controls. It is cool they have an item for that though for future reference.

I have been slowly foraging components for my system as well, and I'm getting there, but isn't there also an adapter for the door/lights/fuel/key chime? It's not as necessary in the LSS as it has been in some of my older Bonnies, since it has the auto power cutoff if a drain is detected (neat) and the inability to lock keys inside when they're in the ignition, but still valuable IMHO.

For the year being discussed in this post, these functions do not go through the radio harness.
