My car has the stock GM CD player/Radio/Tape deck and I'm just trying to figure out how to remove it and replace it. I see that is has a piece of plastic over it along with the air conditioner controls. Is there a safe way to remove the plastic so I can get to the stereo.

In addition, I'm debating whether or not to replace it with an aftermarket one because if I were to buy an aftermarket stereo, would the play, seek, and volume buttons on my steering wheel still work? Would I have to get a wire conversion kit of some kind with an aftermarket stereo? Plus the ones at my local store are smaller than the hole where the OEM stereo is. What kind of plastic piece would I have to get to fit one of those thinner aftermarket stereos inside?

ok to answer your questions, the plastic trim just pops off there are clips that hold it in different locations.

here is a pretty good writeup for the install viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7319&hilit=radio

you will need an adapter if you want to keep your door chimes i used the PAC c2r-gm32r

you will also need another adapter to keep your steering wheel controls I used the PAC swi-PS which works with pioneer and sony units

also with the bose you will have to run the remote wire to the amp behind the back seat and splice it with a wire to make the amp turn on

Oh I didn't want to install any amps or speakers in the back. I'm perfectly happy with all the OEM speakers but they are Bose. All I'm interested in replacing is the unit because the LCD on the unit is burned out and I've concluded buying a brand-new aftermarket one would be cheaper than trying to find the OEM unit off eBay.

i was referring to the stock bose amp that sits on the back of the seat on the drivers side you have to run a remote wire to if you replace the factory unit

I only have 1 burned out bulb behind the LCD display. But do I have to order a replacement bulb off that corvetteradios website??? I don't want to pay $23 for 3 bulbs of which only 1 if possible. Could I get the bulbs for the display from Radio Shack?
